About Split PDF
Most readers of a long report need a few sections, not the whole thing. Open the PDF and the page range box starts out filled with every page; narrow it to the part you want, such as 1-3, 5, 7-9, and the tool writes exactly those pages into a new document. A page listed twice is only kept once, and a typo is rejected with a message instead of being half applied.
Features
- Single pages and ranges in one box, separated by commas
- Range box starts filled with the whole document
- Rejects a malformed or out-of-range entry instead of guessing
- Output keeps the original page order
Limitations
- Each run produces one PDF holding the pages you listed; for several separate parts, run it again with a different range each time.
- A range cannot reorder or repeat pages, because the output follows the original order. Use the organize tool for reordering.
- Each file can be up to 50 MB, and a password-protected PDF has to be unlocked first.
- Saving the split file needs a free account.
How it works
- Drop a PDF onto the upload area, or browse for it; the page count appears under the file name.
- Edit the Page range box so it lists only the pages you want, for example 1-3, 5, 7-9.
- Select the Extract Pages button and wait for the new file to be built.
- Download split.pdf once it is ready.
Frequently asked questions
- Not in one run. The tool builds a single PDF from the range you type. To get several parts, enter the first range, download the result, then change the range and run it again. The original file is read afresh each time and never modified.
- Page numbers and ranges separated by commas, like 1-3, 5, 7-9. Spaces around the dash are fine. Zero, backwards ranges such as 5-2 and pages past the last one are rejected, and nothing is applied until the whole entry is valid.
- The PDF library cannot read encrypted pages, so the tool stops and asks you to remove the password first. Run the file through the unlock tool, then bring the unlocked copy back here to choose your pages.
- No file is sent anywhere for the split. The page range is applied by a PDF library running inside the page and the new document is built in memory. Saving it is the step that asks you to sign in.
