About WebP to PNG
When a WebP needs to go into a tool that only reads PNG, the main concern is keeping the cut-out edges intact. This conversion writes the decoded pixels to a lossless PNG, including the alpha channel if the WebP has one. There is nothing to configure: no quality, no background color. Just check the size change in the result panel, since a lossless PNG is often much larger than the WebP it came from.
Features
- Alpha channel kept, so transparent WebP files give transparent PNG files
- Lossless output with no quality slider
- WebP input of up to 60 MB per file
- Shows file size, width and height before and after
Limitations
- The PNG is usually larger than the WebP, and a lossy WebP cannot be made sharper by converting it.
- An animated WebP is saved as one still image, not an animated PNG.
- Images over 16384 px on a side or 100 megapixels in total are rejected at upload.
- Downloading the PNG needs a free account; without one you see a reduced-size preview.
How it works
- Drop a WebP file onto the upload area, or browse for it.
- Select Convert to PNG. No options are shown because the output is lossless.
- Compare the original and the PNG in the preview, including the file sizes.
- Press Download to save the PNG with the same file name.
Frequently asked questions
- Yes. If the WebP has an alpha channel the PNG is written with one, so cut-outs and soft shadows keep their see-through areas. An opaque WebP gives an opaque PNG.
- WebP files from the web are usually lossy and small, while PNG stores every pixel without loss. The result panel shows the exact difference. If size matters, convert to JPG for photos instead.
- No. The PNG holds exactly what the WebP decodes to, artifacts included. The benefit is a format that other tools read and that does not lose more detail when saved again.
- It is flattened to a single still image. PNG output here is not animated, so keep the original file if you need the motion.
