About SERP Preview
A title that looks fine in a text box can still be cut off on a results page. Enter a title, a URL and a meta description and the tool draws a desktop card and a mobile card, trimming the title to a pixel budget and the description to 160 characters. The URL appears as a breadcrumb trail, and a bar under the title changes color as the estimated width grows. Google may rewrite what it shows, so read the cards as a close approximation.
Features
- Desktop and mobile result cards that update as you type
- Estimated title width in pixels, measured in your browser with Arial
- Width bar that turns amber past 500 pixels and red past 600
- URL shown as a host and path breadcrumb
- Description clipped with an ellipsis at 160 characters
Limitations
- The cards are an approximation: Google can rewrite titles and descriptions, and the real result varies by device, query and font.
- Width is measured with Arial on a canvas in your browser, so a missing font or an unusual script changes the estimate.
- The description is clipped by character count, 160 characters, not by pixels, so Google may cut it at a different point.
- Nothing is fetched from your page. You type or paste the title, URL and description yourself.
How it works
- Edit the page title, page URL and meta description; sample text is filled in so you can see the layout first.
- Watch the counter above the title: it shows the character count and an estimated pixel width, with a warning when the title may truncate.
- Check the desktop card, where the title is trimmed to fit a 600 pixel line, and the mobile card, which shows a smaller title over up to two lines.
- Read how the URL turns into a host and path breadcrumb, and correct the field if it reports an invalid http or https address.
- Use Reset to clear all three fields and test another page.
Example input
Title: "My Awesome Page Title | Site Name"
URL: https://example.com/my-awesome-page
Description: "This is an example meta description, written to fit the 140-160 character range search engines display best."Frequently asked questions
- Desktop titles are trimmed to fit a 600 pixel line and mobile titles to 640 pixels spread over two lines, measured with Arial in your browser. Wide letters such as W and M take more room than i or l, so a character count alone is a poor guide.
- Not exactly. Google can replace a title or description with text of its own, and the cards only imitate its layout. Use the preview to catch obvious truncation and missing text, then compare it with the live result once the page is indexed.
- Yes. The tool never loads the URL, so a draft, a staging page or a future address works. Nothing you type is sent to a server. The URL only needs to start with http:// or https:// to be accepted.
- Green means the title measures 500 pixels or less, amber means it is between 500 and 600 pixels, and red means it is over 600 pixels. Red also adds the May truncate warning next to the character count.
