About Twitter/X Card Generator
X and Twitter read twitter: meta tags to build the card that sits under a shared link. Choose between a small-thumbnail summary and a wide summary_large_image banner, then add a title, a description, an image address and, if you want, the account's @handle. The preview follows the chosen layout, and counters warn when the title passes 70 characters or the description passes 200.
Features
- Summary and summary_large_image card types
- Writes twitter:card, title, description, image and site tags
- Adds the @ to a handle and leaves out handles that are not valid
- Title and description counters with 70 and 200 character guides
- Card preview that changes layout with the card type
Limitations
- Only five properties are produced: card, title, description, image and site. There is no twitter:creator and no image alt text.
- The 70 and 200 character counters are warnings built into the form; X decides what it truncates and whether it shows a card at all.
- A handle can use letters, numbers and underscores, up to 15 characters, and the image must be a public http or https address that your browser loads for the preview.
- Downloading twitter-card.html needs a free account; copying the tags does not.
How it works
- Pick Summary or Summary Large Image; the large image layout is selected to start with.
- Enter the title, which is required, and an optional description.
- Add an image URL and, if you want the account credited as the site, an @username.
- Check the card preview and the counters under the title and description.
- Copy the generated twitter: tags into the head of your page, or download them as twitter-card.html.
Example input
<meta name="twitter:card" content="summary_large_image">
<meta name="twitter:title" content="Auro Tools">
<meta name="twitter:image" content="https://example.com/card.jpg">Frequently asked questions
- Summary writes twitter:card as summary and the preview shows a small thumbnail beside the text. Summary Large Image writes summary_large_image and shows a wide image above the text. The card type is the only line that differs; both use the same fields.
- The handle must be letters, numbers or underscores, up to 15 characters, typed with or without the @ in front. Anything else, such as spaces or a URL, shows an error and no twitter:site line is written. A valid handle typed without the @ gets one added.
- This tool writes twitter: tags only. Pair them with og: tags from the Open Graph generator for other platforms, or use the meta tag generator, which can write both blocks together with the page title and description.
- No. X decides whether to display a card, and the preview here is an approximation. The generator only writes the markup; it cannot check how X will read your page.
- No. You enter an address, not a file. Your browser requests that address to draw the preview, while the title, description and handle stay on the page.
