About Meta Tag Generator
A page's head decides what search results and link previews show before anyone reads the content. Type a title and, if you like, a description, canonical URL, robots setting and author, and the tool writes the matching HTML tags. Tick the Open Graph and Twitter/X Card boxes and it adds those blocks as well, reusing the same title, description and image. Character counters flag titles and descriptions that run short or long as you type.
Features
- Writes title, description, canonical, robots and author tags
- Optional Open Graph and Twitter/X Card blocks built from the same fields
- Four robots presets: index or noindex, follow or nofollow
- Live character counts with a status message for the title and description
- Escapes quotes, ampersands and angle brackets in your text
Limitations
- The counters are fixed guides: titles under 30 or over 60 characters, and descriptions under 100 or over 160 characters, are flagged. Search engines set their own cut-offs.
- Canonical and image URLs must be public http or https addresses; localhost and private network addresses show an error and are left out of the output.
- The Twitter/X block holds only the card type, title, description and image. There is no twitter:site handle here, so use the Twitter Card generator when you need one.
- Downloading meta-tags.html needs a free account; copying the tags does not.
How it works
- Type the page title; it is the only required field, and nothing is generated until it has text.
- Add a meta description, a canonical URL and an author if you want them, and choose a robots setting, where index, follow is the default.
- Tick Include Open Graph tags, Include Twitter/X Card tags or both, then fill in the image URL and site name that appear.
- Check the character counts beside the title and description, and fix any URL field that shows an error.
- Copy the generated tags into the head of your page, or download them as meta-tags.html.
Example input
Title: "Best Running Shoes for Beginners — 2026 Guide"
Description: "Compare the top 10 beginner running shoes by comfort, price, and durability."Frequently asked questions
- No. There is no keywords field, and the output holds only the title, description, canonical, robots and author tags plus the optional social blocks. Leave the keywords out of the head and put your effort into the title and description.
- Open Graph gets og:title, og:description, og:url (taken from the canonical URL), og:image, og:site_name and og:type set to website. Twitter/X gets twitter:card, title, description and image. The card is summary_large_image when an image URL is entered and summary when it is not.
- It sets the content of one robots meta tag: index or noindex combined with follow or nofollow, with index, follow as the default. The tag asks search engines how to treat the page. It does not block anyone from opening it.
- A canonical link is written only for an absolute public http or https address. A bare path, a domain without https://, or a localhost address shows an error under the field and is skipped. When the canonical is skipped, og:url is skipped too.
- No. The tags are assembled in your browser from the fields on the page. The only step that involves an account is the Download button, because every file download asks guests to sign in or create a free account first.
