About PNG to JPG
A JPG cannot store transparency, so a PNG logo or screenshot with see-through areas needs something behind it before it can become one. Here you pick that background color, white by default, and a quality level, and the image is flattened onto it on our servers. Soft, semi-transparent edges blend into the color you chose instead of showing a hard fringe. The result is saved as a progressive JPG.
Features
- Background color picker for transparent areas, white by default
- Quality slider from 10 to 100, starting at 90
- Semi-transparent edges blend into the chosen color
- Saves a progressive JPG
- Shows the new size, width and height next to the original PNG
Limitations
- Transparency is gone for good: the JPG has no alpha channel, so keep the PNG if you may need the cutout again.
- JPG is lossy, so sharp text and thin lines can pick up fuzz at lower quality settings. Compare before you download.
- PNG files up to 60 MB are accepted, and images over 16384 px on a side or 100 megapixels in total are rejected.
- Downloading the JPG needs a free account; without one you see a reduced-size preview.
How it works
- Drop a PNG file onto the upload area, or browse for it.
- Move the quality slider; lower values give a smaller file with less detail.
- If the PNG has transparent areas, click the color box and choose the background that should show through. It starts on white.
- Select Convert to JPG.
- Compare the original and the JPG, read the size change, then press Download.
Frequently asked questions
- They are filled with the color in the picker, which starts on white. Partly transparent pixels, such as a soft shadow, are blended with that color in proportion to how see-through they were, so the edge looks natural on the new background.
- The slider starts at 90. Lower it in steps of 5 for a smaller file and use the slider view to check text and edges. Each run starts from your original PNG.
- Often for photographs, but not always. A flat graphic with few colors can already be small as a PNG. The result panel shows the exact change and flags a JPG that came out larger than the original.
- No. Once the background is baked in, nothing in the JPG records which pixels were see-through. Keep your original PNG, or convert it to WebP when you want to stay transparent.
- The PNG is sent to our server for the conversion. A result made while signed out expires after 24 hours and is deleted automatically; the retention for signed-in accounts depends on the plan.
