About Password Generator
Every site wants its own password, and most have a rule about what it must contain. Set a length and tick the character types you need: uppercase, lowercase, digits and symbols. A first password appears as soon as the page opens, and Generate password makes a fresh one. Whatever sets you tick, the result holds at least one character from each, and every pick comes from the browser's cryptographic random generator rather than Math.random.
Features
- Length from 4 to 128 characters
- Uppercase, lowercase, digits and symbols in any combination
- At least one character from every selected set
- Random values from crypto.getRandomValues with bias-free sampling
- Strength bar based on length and character variety
Limitations
- The strength bar looks only at length and which character types appear. It does not measure entropy or check for common passwords, and the page itself notes it is no proof of security.
- The symbol set is fixed at 26 characters, and there is no option to exclude look-alike characters such as O and 0 or l and 1.
- It makes random character strings only, with no passphrase or pronounceable mode, and the password is not saved: copy it before you generate another.
How it works
- Set the Length with the slider, anywhere from 4 to 128.
- Tick the Character sets you want: Uppercase, Lowercase, Digits and Symbols.
- Select Generate password for a new one. The page also makes one when it opens.
- Look at the Strength bar, which scores length and character variety.
- Use Copy to put the password on the clipboard.
- Reset returns the length to 16 with all four sets ticked and clears the password.
Frequently asked questions
- Each pick draws a 32-bit value from crypto.getRandomValues and throws away any value that would favor some characters over others. One character from every selected set is placed first, the rest come from the combined pool, and the whole list is shuffled with the same generator.
- It means a simple score was high. A password earns a point for 12 characters or more, another for 16 or more, and one for each of the four character types it contains. Two points or fewer is Weak, three Fair, four Strong, five or six Very strong. Reuse and phishing are not measured.
- Yes. Untick Uppercase, Lowercase and Symbols so only Digits remain, then set the length. The shortest result is four digits. Keep in mind that a short run of digits has far fewer combinations than a mixed password of the same length.
- Usually the site does not allow some of the symbols, or it caps the length. The symbol list here is fixed, so untick Symbols and generate again, or shorten the length. Digits and letters alone are accepted almost everywhere.
- No. It is built by a script on the page, shown on screen and held only until you generate another or leave. Copy puts it on your clipboard, and the Share button copies the tool's address, never the password.
