About Crop PDF
Wide margins, a scanner border or a header you would rather not share: sometimes you just want less of the page. The tool shows page one as an image, you drag a rectangle over the part to keep, and that same proportional area is applied to every page of the file. It works by setting each page's crop box, which controls what a viewer displays, so pages are trimmed without being redrawn.
Features
- Crop area drawn directly on a preview of the page
- One selection applied proportionally to every page
- Sets the page crop box, so pages are trimmed without being redrawn
- Page count shown under the file name
Limitations
- The preview shows page one only and the same proportions are used for all pages, so files with mixed page sizes or rotations may not crop as previewed.
- Cropping hides the outside area but does not delete it, so do not rely on it to remove sensitive material.
- The selection is drawn with mouse events only, so it is meant for a mouse or trackpad.
- Files up to 50 MB are accepted, and saving cropped.pdf needs a free account.
How it works
- Add the PDF and wait for the preview of page one to appear.
- Drag across the preview with your mouse to draw the rectangle you want to keep.
- Redraw the rectangle if it is off, since each new drag replaces the previous one.
- Select Crop PDF.
- Download cropped.pdf once it appears.
Frequently asked questions
- No. The tool sets a crop box on each page, which tells viewers what to display. The rest of the page is still stored in the file and a PDF editor could reveal it. To remove sensitive text for good, use the redact tool instead.
- Not here. You draw one rectangle on page one and the same fractional area is applied to every page. If pages need different crops, split the file into groups of similar pages first and crop each group.
- The selection must be at least 4 pixels wide and tall on the preview. A click without a drag, or a tiny box, is rejected with that prompt, so draw a clearly visible rectangle and try again.
- No. Page one is drawn on a canvas inside your browser, and the crop box is set by a PDF library in the page. The finished file stays in memory until you save it, which is the step that needs an account.
