About Translate PDF
A contract in Portuguese or a manual in Japanese is only useful once you can read it. Choose the language the PDF is written in and the one you want, and the tool pulls the text out of the document and has an AI language model translate it, keeping paragraph breaks. You get editable text to copy, not a rebuilt PDF with the original layout. Only the first 4,000 characters of the document are translated in one run, so it suits short files or a single section.
Features
- Sixteen languages, from English, Spanish and French to Japanese, Arabic and Hindi
- The model is asked to preserve paragraph breaks and formatting
- The translation opens in an editable box with a one-click copy button
- A message appears if the source and target languages are the same
Limitations
- Only the first 4,000 characters of the extracted text are translated per run, so a longer PDF is translated up to that point only.
- The output is plain text in a box, not a translated PDF, and the original layout, images and tables are not reproduced.
- The PDF can be up to 50 MB and needs selectable text. You pick the source language yourself, and scanned pages with no text end in an error message.
- Machine translation can contain mistakes, so have important documents checked by a person. The tool may need credits or a paid plan.
How it works
- Drop a PDF onto the upload area, or browse for it.
- Wait while Reading PDF is shown. The file name, size and page count then appear.
- Pick the language of the PDF under From and the language you want under To. The two must be different.
- Select Translate and wait for the result to appear in the Translation box.
- Edit the text if needed, then select Copy translation.
Frequently asked questions
- No. The result is text in an editable box that you copy out. Paste it into a document, or into Text to PDF if the translation is in a Latin-script language, since that tool cannot draw other scripts.
- English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Chinese (Simplified), Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hindi, Vietnamese and Turkish. Any pair works as long as the source and target differ.
- Cut it into parts first. Use Extract Pages or Split PDF to make a file for each section, then translate the files one at a time and join the copied text yourself. Each run covers the first 4,000 characters of its file.
- The PDF file itself is read on the page, and only the extracted text goes to our server and on to the model. The text is not saved with the job record, but the finished translation is held until the job expires and is then deleted.
