About PDF Forms
Tax forms, applications and onboarding packs often arrive as fillable PDFs. This tool reads the form fields the file actually contains and gives each a matching input: text boxes (multi-line ones get a larger box), checkboxes, radio groups and dropdowns. Fields are listed under the names stored in the PDF, which are sometimes cryptic. When you finish, the values are flattened into the pages, so the saved copy shows your answers but can no longer be edited.
Features
- An input for each text, checkbox, radio and dropdown field
- Multi-line text fields get a larger text area
- Starts from any values already stored in the PDF
- Flattens the form so the answers become part of the page
- Says so when a PDF has no fillable fields
Limitations
- Only existing form fields can be filled. You cannot place text anywhere else, and a scan or other flat PDF reports that it has no fillable fields.
- The saved copy is flattened, so it cannot be filled in again; keep the original if you may need an editable version.
- Text fields accept Latin characters only, and other scripts are rejected with a message naming the field.
- Signature fields and push buttons are not listed. Files up to 50 MB are accepted, and saving needs a free account.
How it works
- Add a PDF that has fillable fields; the number of fields found appears under the file name.
- Work down the list of inputs, typing into text fields, ticking checkboxes and choosing radio or dropdown options.
- Select Fill & Flatten PDF to write your answers into the pages.
- Download filled.pdf from the button that appears.
Frequently asked questions
- The tool can only see the field names stored inside the PDF, and many form builders give fields machine names. It does not read the printed text beside each box, so compare the list with the original page to match inputs to questions.
- Either the document is flat, with boxes merely printed on it, or it is a scan. Only forms with real built-in fields can be filled here, because the tool cannot type onto an ordinary page.
- Not the saved copy. Flattening turns your answers into part of the page and removes the fields. Keep the original PDF, and run it through the tool again if you need to change an answer.
- No. The fields are read and filled by a PDF library running in the page, so names, addresses and other answers are not transmitted for the filling. Saving the final file is the step that asks guests to sign in.
