About Word to PDF
When a .docx has to go out as a PDF and Word is not at hand, upload it here and the conversion runs on our server through a headless LibreOffice, which lays out fonts, headers, footers and page breaks the way a word processor would. The result is a PDF named after your document. Only .docx is accepted, and results can still differ from Word's own export. The tool may need credits or a paid plan.
Features
- Converted by headless LibreOffice on our server, not by a browser script
- Headers, footers and page breaks laid out by a full office engine
- Legacy .doc and non-Word files are refused before the upload starts
- A failed conversion is refunded automatically
Limitations
- The upload can be up to 50 MB, and a conversion that runs past 120 seconds fails.
- Only .docx is accepted; older .doc files are refused.
- LibreOffice does the layout, not Word, so pagination and fonts can differ from Word's own PDF export.
- This tool may need credits or a paid plan, so signing in is usually required to run it and to download the result.
How it works
- Drop a .docx file onto the upload area, or browse for it.
- Wait for the file name and size to appear. Older .doc files and renamed non-Word files are refused at this point with a message.
- Select Convert to PDF and wait while the server converts the document.
- Select Download to save the PDF, which keeps your document's name.
Frequently asked questions
- The PDF is produced by LibreOffice, which reads the .docx and lays it out itself. Fonts it does not have, or Word features it handles differently, can shift line breaks and pagination. Check the result against the original before sending it.
- No. Only .docx is accepted. Open the old file in Word, save it as .docx, and upload that version. The page refuses .doc files with a message before anything is sent.
- Yes, the .docx is sent to our server and converted in a temporary working folder that is deleted afterwards. The finished PDF is stored until its retention period ends, then removed, and you sign in to download it.
- They are returned. Credits are only kept when a run succeeds, and a job that fails or gets stuck is refunded automatically. If the file is not a valid Word document, the error says so instead of charging you.
