About PDF to Excel

Pulling figures out of a PDF usually starts with copying and pasting line by line. This converter does that first step for you: it reads the text layer of every page and writes it into a spreadsheet, one block of text per row in a single column, with a separator row where each page begins. It does not find table borders or split cells, so treat the sheet as raw material to clean up in Excel rather than a finished table.

Features

  • One extracted text block per row on a sheet named Extracted Text
  • A separator row such as --- Page 1 --- before each page's text
  • Clear message and a link to OCR PDF when the file has no text layer
  • Text extraction and workbook creation both happen in your browser tab

Limitations

  • Files over 50 MB are refused, so a very large PDF has to be split first.
  • Tables and columns are not detected: every block of text lands in the first column, so splitting values into cells is up to you.
  • Only text is extracted. Images, charts and shapes are ignored, and a PDF with no text layer ends in an error instead of a file.
  • Downloading the .xlsx needs a free account.

How it works

  1. Pick the PDF whose text you want, by dropping it on the upload area or browsing.
  2. Wait while the text is read. Conversion starts as soon as the file is chosen, and a note reminds you that tables and columns are not detected.
  3. If the tool reports that no text was found, follow the link to OCR PDF, which extracts the text from scans instead.
  4. Select Download XLSX and open the sheet named Extracted Text.
