About Article Schema Generator
Blog posts and news stories carry facts that search engines can read directly: who wrote them, when they were published and updated, and which image represents them. Enter a headline and at least one author, add the optional details, and the tool prints Article JSON-LD. Both dates start as today and can be changed. Separate several authors with commas and each becomes its own Person entry. Warnings flag a modified date that comes before the published date and headlines over 110 characters.
Features
- Article JSON-LD with headline, description, URL, image, dates, author and publisher
- Several authors become separate Person entries
- Headline length warning above 110 characters
- Error when the date modified is earlier than the date published
- Invalid article and image addresses are flagged and omitted
Limitations
- The type is always Article; NewsArticle and BlogPosting are not offered.
- Authors are written as names only, and the publisher as a name only, so no profile address or logo is included.
- Dates are written as plain calendar dates without a time or time zone, and both start as today, so change them for older posts.
- Downloading article-schema.html needs a free account; copying the script tag does not.
How it works
- Enter the headline and the author name; both are required, and several authors can be separated with commas.
- Add the publisher name, the article URL, an image URL and a short description if you have them.
- Set the date published and the date modified, which both start as today's date.
- Read the hints under the fields: they flag a long headline, a modified date earlier than the published date, and URLs that are not public http or https addresses.
- Copy the generated script tag into the article page, or download it as article-schema.html.
Example input
{
"@type": "Article",
"headline": "How to Improve Your Website SEO",
"author": { "@type": "Person", "name": "Jane Smith" }
}Frequently asked questions
- Type the names in the Author(s) field separated by commas, for example Jane Smith, John Roe. Each name becomes its own Person entry. A name written as surname, forename would be split in two, so write names in normal order.
- It shows the character count and says Google recommends headlines under 110 characters. The message is only a warning: the JSON-LD is still produced, and you decide whether to shorten the headline.
- The field shows an error saying the modified date cannot be earlier than the published date. The markup is still generated from what you entered, so correct the dates before you copy it.
- No. The type is always Article, which describes written pieces in general. If a more specific type suits the page, change the @type value in the output by hand after copying it.
